Porter-Cable 9987 19.2-Volt Ni-Cad 1/2-Inch Cordless Hammer Drill/Driver Kit

Porter-Cable 9987 description

There's nothing you can't do with this puppy. A full 19.2 volts of power will do away with fasteners as if you had a jackhammer in your hand, and 470 inch-pounds of torque provide all the drive power you'll need. Because of the two-speed gearbox, you've got drill speed ranges of 0 to 500 rpm and 0 to 1,500 rpm. Its 1/2-inch ratcheting chuck is keyless, and the 20-position clutch takes care of drilling and driving into all kinds of material. Porter-Cable's drills are among the best on the market; you'll never regret a Porter-Cable purchase. But here's one more reason to go with this model if you're in the market for a cordless drill/driver: the interchangeable Grip-to-Fit handle inserts. Having grappled with tool handles that were too big to control, we think this system is a great idea. There are manly sized grips included, of course, but for the woman woodworker or cabinetmaker, welcome to a delight--small grips! The kit is a good deal--it includes two batteries, a charger, a case, a bit, and side handles for hammer drill use. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Very satisfied
My 5 year old 19.2 Porter Cable 1/2 inch drill had a battery go bad. So I bought this one. Turns out the charger was bad so now I have two great drills and 4 batteries! Cool! This drill is everything they say it is. It goes through concrete block like butter. Have not tried it in poured concrete yet. The chuck is much better than the old one. When the motor is stoped, the shaft is locked and that makes it easier to loosen the chuck with one hand.

Be careful with this drill!
I have had one of these drills for almost two years now. The plastic handle around the trigger flexes when you are drilling. In other words, the motor is about to snap the handle casing...this drill can only handle mild tasks.

A bad purchase
My husband had a porter cable 14.4 drill and had been drooling over this one. Well I bought it as a gift for him. First use he noticed that the chuck had a wobble in it. He has only had it for a couple of months and the wobble has gotten increasingly worse. Now it's getting to the point that the chuck won't even hold onto a drill bit. Maybe I just got a bad one but I wouldn't buy this one again.

Great Drill!!
My father is a contractor who is very picky about his tools, and very hard on them as well. This is the 3rd drill of the same model for him, and he keeps going back to it because he likes it so much. I even picked one up for myself, seeing how much he likes his! It drills through anything! Good battery life, charges quickly, great product overall. A bit heavy, but understandably so, seeing that the power it puts out needs to come from somewhere!

My third Porter-Cable tool
I am very pleased with this drill. It is replacing a Black&Decker 14.4 volt drill I purchased 2 years ago. The Porter-Cable drill appears to be a much better made drill. I really like the two speed ranges. The charger will not charge hot batterys which would shorten battery life, a great feature if your relatives borrow you tools and do not read instructions. For heavy duty use Porter-Cable offers the same drill with a heavy duty battery, but with the 1 hour charger, I have not found a need for a larger battery. A great product!!

Best cordless drill on the market!!!
This is by far the best cordless drill on the market. When I burn this one up, I'll buy another one just like it again!

A Workhorse
We have been using these PC 19.2 hammer drills for building cisterns (big concrete boxes that catch & store rainwater) in Haiti for several years. We surely use them well beyond their intended capacity, we regularly drive 3/8" lag bolts & endless numbers of 3" wood screws. The drive in the drill holds up incredibly well, we get about 18 months out of a battery on average, I don't know how many discarges and recharges this is but we are well satisfied with the package. We try to be vigilant about completely discharging the battery before charging. We have a circular saw that uses the same power and it is very well built and very handy but it uses up a battery in short order. The chargers do charge in an hour and hold up well considering the power source we use fluctuates.

We have been very happy with the performance of this product and plan to continue to use them in the future.

Bought it 5 years ago and I still love it!
I bought the drill a little over five years ago and I am as pleased with it now as I was when it was brand new. This drill has been put through it's paces over the last five years and never fails. It has been well used and abused, dropped (off of roofs), kicked and just generally abused as any tool would be. The only draw back to the drill is the fact that it is heavier than most, but you won't mind. The battery life if very good and re-charge time is quick. All in all it is highly reccomended, this coming five years later and not right after it was bought.

It keeps going and going and going...
I bought this drill 4 years ago and liked it so well I purchased another one!! I also bought the flashlight. Watch when replacing the battery to be sure and get the larger amp one it lasts much longer hopefully PC will follow as the rest of the manufacturers with lithium batteries.Only one drawback was the cost of replacment batteries. But I guess you get what you pay for. They truly last a long time. We use on a daily basis in the field and were completely satisified.
